About Google Blog Search

Google blog search results include posts from all Internet blogs, not just Blogger. Search results can be found in several languages, including:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Turkish
  • Vietnamese

How to Get Your Blog Listed on Google Blog Search

If your blog distributes information through a site feed, it will be picked up by Blog Search. Google Blog uses this information to index the blogs. Crawlers search through the listings for new content on a regular basis. This means listings are updated much more quickly than for web pages.

Google Blog Search is working on a plan so that blog owners will be able to submit their blogs for inclusion in the search engine in a similar fashion to the procedures used by site owners to submit web sites.

If You Don't Want Your Blog Listed

As a blog owner, you can choose not to have your blog listed by deciding not to publish a feed for your blog. If you did use an RSS feed in the past, the older postings will be included in the listings, though.

How to Use Google Blog Search

You have the option of searching for a blog or a specific post within a blog. The site is defaulted to show links to specific posts in the search results. If there are blogs that seem to fit your query, you will find them listed above the search results.

Subscribe to Search Results

At the bottom of the page with your search results, you will find links where you can sign up for RSS or Atom feeds. Once you have done this, you will be notified every time the blogs you are interested in are updated.

How to Search

There are several ways you can search using Google Blog Search. In addition to searching for specific keywords, you have the option of using advanced search techniques. Here are some examples:

  • Use [cache:] to show you the version of the blog page that Google has in its cache. Here's how it would look: [cache:www.YourSite.com]
  • When you use the search term [link:], you can find out which web pages link to the site you have selected. You would type in [link:www.NameofSite.com]
  • The search term [related:] gives you a list of pages that are similar to the site you have selected.
  • Use [info:] when you want to learn what information Google has gathered about a particular web page.

Other Search Operators Available

Internet users also use the following search operators to help them find the information they need:

  • inblogtitle
  • inposttitle
  • blogurl
  • inpostauthor

Here's an example for you: If you type [dog inpostauthor Charlie], you will find all the bogs with the word "dog" in posts written by someone named Charlie.

Language of Search Results

With Google blog search, you have the option of choosing to see results in the languages you choose. (Blog search has 35 of them to choose from.)

Filter Out Adult Content

Just as in Google search, you have the option of using SafeSearch to filter out blogs with adult content.

Reporting Spam

If you find spam in your search results, the right approach is to report it to Google. Submit a spam report by clicking here.
