Cute Xanga Layouts

Cute Xanga layouts are part of what makes the social networking site so popular. While other sites such as MySpace and Facebook are somewhat customizable by their users, Xanga offers more, and easier, opportunities to customize. Though it started as a music and video reviewing site back in 1999, Xanga has thoroughly embraced the Web 2.0 revolution and created both themes and interfaces that are as easy to use as they are varied.

Xanga Themes

The easiest way to get a cute Xanga layout on your page is simply to go into the Theme Browser. To get to this menu, go to your Xanga home page and look on the left side,where there are various sub menus. One of them shows your site, and has a little icon showing a snapshot of your site's colors and graphics. Underneath there are two choices: "Browse Themes" and "Edit Themes." In Xanga's theme browser, you will first be presented with a series of random themes, with several important pieces of information on each:

• Site Preview – While the icon is small, you can see a lot in terms of color and the general layout of each theme – how much text vs. how much image, where the information is, and more. This is a good way to let the cute Xanga layouts catch your eye and decide which ones merit a closer look.
• Theme Title – More amusing than actually useful, with names like "Fractal Broccoli" or simply an emoticon "=)" the names are a reflection of the creativity of the people who posted it.
• Posted – This tells when the theme was submitted to Xanga.
• Previews and Saves – These two pieces of information are actually quite useful. First of all, if something has not had very many previews, then there is the opportunity to get a theme on your site that is not going to be replicated many other places. On the other hand, if it has been previewed many times but not saved very much, that tells you that there is probably something wrong with the theme. You can save the time of clicking and looking at it.
• Started by – Every theme had to be started by someone, and their name (and more usefully, a link to their site) is also listed in the theme browser.

While the first time you browse the themes will be shown randomly, there are other ways to sort by category, as shown in the picture below, such as all ages, basic guidance, caution, discretion required, and explicit.

Once you've chosen your theme, however, you can continue to modify your selection to your exact taste using the "Edit Theme" option. Things as simple as your background image or as complex as how you show your Xanga profile can be adjusted using the very intuitive interface. For example, to lend a seasonal flair to your Xanga in October, one could start with a pattern of leaves repeating in the background, with the opacity lowered to still easily show the text against it.. Choosing a different font color might be tempting, but in most cases using colors only for things like module titles (perhaps bright orange or a scary red) or for links. All of these colors are completely customizable using HTML and RGB codes or simply using the color picker that pops up.

The modules themselves can be moved around, so perhaps joining a "horror movie" blogring and displaying the recent entries at the top of your page, right next to your own special photo album of scary movie posters would give a nice holiday aspect to the whole page. With so many ways to change the page, the number of cute Xanga layouts you can create is almost limitless.
