How to Make Your Own MySpace Background

You don’t have to be a computer guru to make your own MySpace background. There are a number of ways to add your personality to your MySpace page without spending a lot of time writing your own code. Nevertheless, if you know how, you can do that too.

To create your MySpace background you need a basic knowledge of html or css. The code can be as simple as linking to a background image or as involved as customizing fonts, tables, headings and links.

Simple Backgrounds

You could use a template from any number of background websites. The problem with this route is that many of them place a link to their website within the code that will appear on your profile page. In addition, the background images are usually hosted on their server. That means they can move or delete the background you’re using at any time. It can disappear from your profile without warning. Making your own background will avoid these potential issues.

The MySpace Profile Editor

One way to make your own MySpace background is to use the MySpace profile editor. When you enter your MySpace control panel, there will be a link marked “edit profile.” Once you’re on the edit page, in the top right corner there will be a link to the profile editor. Here you can change your background color, image, customize your fonts, headings and the “modules” or boxes that appear on your profile page.

To add a background image, upload the image to your photo gallery. Go to the profile editor and click background image. From there you can search for your image. Be careful with this. MySpace shrinks images when you upload them to your photo gallery. If your background image isn’t large enough, it will need to repeat. This can cause unattractive lines in your background. If you don’t want your background image to repeat, you should host it somewhere else on the Web.

Hosting Your Images on Another Server

All You Can Upload allows you to upload your background image without signing up for an account. As long as your image follows their content and copyright guidelines, they will host it forever.

To use this service your image needs to be in jpeg format. Once you upload an image, they will provide a link to it on their server. You will need only the url. Copy the second box under links to original image and paste it into the profile editor. Be sure you link to the original image and not the thumbnail. The link will look like this: The only part you need is the url that comes after [IMG]. You can delete the rest.

Layout Generators

There are a number of layout generators on the web. You can use them to customize your layout without writing the code yourself. Some generators are easier to use than MySpace’s profile editor. Music Tweak offers a simple generator that allows you to add a background image, change the fonts and colors and customize the modules. When you’re finished, hit the generate layout button and it will create the code for your layout. Then simply go to edit your profile on MySpace. Cut and paste the code into your profile page in the "about me" box. Be sure you haven’t changed any settings in the profile editor. If you have, the layout generator code will not show up. Though there are a number of steps included in this method, it is probably the easiest way to get the result you want.

Writing Your Own Code

Writing your own code can be a challenge. You shouldn’t attempt it unless you are very familiar with writing html or css code. If you want to try it, you can get some help from Skem9.com

Conclusion

Making your own background is a great way to add more of your personality to your MySpace profile. It can be as easy as adding a background image or as complicated as customizing every element.
