MySpace Profile Builder

From LoveToKnow SocialNetworking

On top of using text to express yourself, a MySpace profile builder allows you to use backgrounds, images, fonts, colors and even music to create your own little online corner of fame.

MySpace Profile Builder Sites

You may be surprised by the number of MySpace profile sites online designed to help you pick the way your page looks, down to the smallest details. Here are a few to check out once you get ready to build your page:

  • Profile Goodies allows you to add backgrounds, a visitor tracker, quizzes, comments and more.
  • MySpace Code lets you adjust the tables, text, scrollbars and more. It lets you choose what you want, generates the code and you put it into your page.
  • MyGen.co.uk is a great site with a very user-friendly interface. It lets you see what you're getting in a live preview at the bottom of the page. This one's laid out in an easy tab format.

If you use a very detailed profile builder, you'll be able to choose the smallest details. If not, you'll be able to get a package deal by basically choosing a background and taking the layout and font that goes with it. That being said, let's break down some of the components so you know what to answer where on your profile while you build it. After all, no website can build your total profile. It needs your wit, your charm, and most of all, unique information about you.

What's a Background?

A background is just that. It's the canvas you use to put all of your information on. This is what houses your "About Me" section along with any quiz results you decide to add to your profile, your song or playlist, your comments, and more.

Generally, the background comes with a layout and the font color and text style are complementary to that. So if your background is black, you don't have to go in and change your text to a lighter color; it's done for you.

The background is usually the primary building block when it comes to making your profile. That makes sense since it's generally the first thing people notice when they visit your profile.

Adding Music

You can add music to your profile right from MySpace, so even if you haven't had a chance to venture outside of the main site to make your page say everything you want, you can go to your favorite artist's fan site (or one of many) by clicking on the Music tab, then Search by Artist.

Once you choose the fan page you'd like to visit from the inevitable list that will come up, you can listen to songs right there. After you choose your favorite, just click the "Add" button next to the song.

Putting Everything Together

Getting your profile together on MySpace requires some HTML code. Luckily, for those who don't know HTML well at all, when you choose each component of your profile, you'll be given a code to copy and paste into text boxes within your own MySpace account. For everything else, you just use text. Here are some example sections you may fill out on your page:

About Me

This is where you tell the world how fabulous you are, if you so choose. You tell about your personality, your zodiac sign, what you're looking for on MySpace (friends? A date?), and maybe even what you do for a living.

General

This is an area where you can write more of the same type of thing you put in the About Me section. This is also a popular place to place those quiz results you will eventually stumble upon when you're bored.

Music, Movies, Television and Books

This section is pretty self-explanatory. You list your favorites. You could even list the ones you hate and state why. It's not just a list format; you can write anything.

Heroes

Do you admire someone? Sing their praises in this spot.

Details

This is where you put the nitty-gritty. Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts. Are you married? Single? What do you look like? Kids? There's also room here to talk about what you're looking for on MySpace if you didn't list it anywhere else. Below that, you can add to the Schools and Networking sections with your education and occupation details.

The Right Side

On the right side of your page, you'll have a list of your friends with their default pictures accompanying their names. When someone visits your page, they can see your friends and click to "meet" them. This is where the beauty of networking comes in.

Below that, you'll see a list of all the comments everyone leaves for you.

Near the top of the page, you'll have a space for blog entries if you choose to add them.

There's an all-new MySpace profile builder and editor that became available in early 2008 right on the MySpace Web site. In the meantime, go to the Profile Support page for insight into the world of HTML, how to tweak a code to make it yours, how to use Photobucket with your page, and more. You can even find tutorials, which are always a valuable source of information.
