About MySpace IM
MySpace IM is delivered through Skype, which is a software program that allows users to make calls to other people through the Internet. Skype users can communicate through IM and videoconferencing.
By signing up for MySpace IM, you can call people on their cell phone from your computer, communicate with your MySpace friends at any time, see instant alerts when you get messages or comments on your profile, and view your online friends' profiles.
How to Solve Problems With MySpace IM
Here are some suggestions for solving problems with MySpace IM.
Trouble Installing Software
If you have Windows 98 or ME on your computer, you won't be able to install the latest version of MySpace IM (1.0.745). The problem is because these versions of Windows are not supported. If you have already installed an older version of the software on your computer, you can still use it. (When the Update dialogue appears on your screen, cancel it to avoid compatibility problems.)
In a situation where you are not using Windows 98 or ME and you see a message saying "Components didn't download from the internet" or "Please check your internet connection and try again," try the following suggestions:
- Try running the installer again; the network may have been busy when you tried to install the software the first time. Waiting a short time (10 minutes or so) may help. You can also try downloading the software late at night or early in the morning, when there will be less people on the network.
- Download the installer again.
Connection Error When You Try to Log In
The first thing to check if you get a connection error is to make sure that your Internet connection is working. Try going to your browser's home page. If your Internet connection is working properly, then it may be one of the following issues:
- The latest version of MySpace IM can trigger a bug that has been linked to sharing in Windows Vista. What tends to happen is that the IM software runs just fine for a certain time and then stops working. If you were able to run one of the previous versions without a problem, then you may be able to resolve the issue by getting a hotfix from Microsoft.
- Security software may be blocking your MySpace IM application. If you have installed a firewall, spyware blocking software, or virus scanning software, this may the cause of the problem. Check to see if this is the case by temporarily disabling these items and then trying to reconnect.
Unable to See the Instant Messenger Window After You Have Installed It
Some users who have upgraded their IM software are unable to see the window, even though the application is listed in their taskbar. To solve this problem, you can try a couple of approaches:
- Download the latest version of the software. You will find a download link here.
- You also have the option of either deleting or renaming the MySpaceIM Settings.xml file. You will find the file here:
Windows 2000/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\WINUSER\Application Data\MySpace\IM\Settings.xml
Windows Vista: C:\Users\WINUSER\AppData\Roaming\MySpace\IM\Settings.xml
Where the word "WINUSER" appears, you need to substitute your own Windows username.
Problems with MySpace IM can be frustrating, and these suggestions should be able to help you solve some of them..
