Profitable Blogging

From LoveToKnow SocialNetworking

People become bloggers for a variety of reasons. It may be as a simple approach to keeping family and friends updated regarding personal thoughts and life events. However, a growing number of people are starting to actively take part in profitable blogging. In this article, you'll learn some general guidelines to how you can make your own blog more profitable.

About Profitable Blogging

The most important aspect of blogging for money that people should understand is that it isn't easy. It's a job that can easily require a full 40 hours a week, or more, of hard work and dedication. There are also bloggers who work fewer than this, and earn decent income, but if you are hoping to publish an entry a week and earn income from your blog, you may want to reassess your expectations. With that said, if you're willing to dedicate at least two or three hours a day to building a profitable blog, then your dream to generate online income will become a reality.

Choose a Niche

One of the earliest successful blogs on the Internet was Problogger.net, a wildly popular blog, created by Darren Rowse, which describes the many techniques and tricks to becoming a professional blogger. After a few years of starting his blog, Darren quit his job and took the leap to becoming a full time blogger, eventually earning six figures a year. By 2008, pleased with the fact that he'd proven that it's possible to create a profitable blog, Darren and his friend blogger, Chris Garrett, wrote a book titled ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income. In this book, Darren and Chris outline the factors that make a particular blog very profitable:

  • Choosing the right niche topic that you're passionate about
  • Updating your blog very often
  • Formatting your posts so that search engines easily find them
  • Making effective use of advertising
  • Doing freelance work for other blogs or websites
  • Taking part in the blogging community (commenting on other blogs)
  • Spending time marketing and promoting your blog

Adding ads to your blog is easy, however choosing the right topic to write about can feel overwhelming for some people. A common response is, "I'm not interested in anything, really." However, if you stop and take a look at the things you feel passionate about, you'll realize that there area mountain of interesting subjects that you could base a blog on.

Write Often and Write Well

In the end, you could create one of the most impressive looking blogs in the world, but if you don't publish content often, you won't develop a loyal readership. Once you've established a blog (it can be as elaborate or as simple as you like), the most important part of blogging for profit is dedicating a certain part of every day to writing intriguing and interesting content that people are searching for. There are four steps to doing this effectively.

  1. Figure out what people are searching for
  2. Come up with articles to write on your blog to attract those people
  3. Determine precise keyword phrases that will attract those people to your blog
  4. Keep those people coming back for more

The fact is, there are billions of Internet searches that take place, and if you can effectively determine what people are looking for, and how many other websites already exist that serve those niche searches, then you can figure out what you should write about in order to compete. It isn't impossible, but it's certainly a science. A good place to start to learn what people are looking for on the Internet include the following resources:

  • Google Trends provides a daily list of the top 10 keyword phrases that people are searching for.
  • AOL Hot Searches shows you what people are searching for on AOL.
  • Yahoo Buzz is a very entertaining site filled with the latest Yahoo search trends.
  • Ask IQ provides you with top searches at Ask.com by category.

Once you determine that topics that so many people are searching for, focus your daily blog articles on those topics, and you'll see your web traffic increase significantly. Remember to publish every day, and you'll be able to maintain a high level of traffic to your blog.

Remember to Market and Promote Your Blog

Just because you're writing well, and using keywords that are focused on what people are searching for, doesn't mean you'll have a magically profitable blog overnight. While it's important to devote time ever day to writing content for your blog, it's just as important to devote time to marketing and promoting your blog. You can do this in a multitude of creative ways:

  • Publish comments to other blogs that serve the same niche, or a similar niche, as the one you write about.
  • Post comments in forums that serve the same niche, and include a link to your blog if the link is relevant to the conversation (otherwise it will get deleted).
  • Make sure to offer an RSS feed of your blog
  • Do freelance writing for other blogs and websites, and include your blog URL in your profile

Final Words

Over time, as you keep growing your blog and your online personality, you'll start getting noticed, and linked to, by other bloggers and other websites on the Internet. If you stick to writing high quality content every day, and remain persistent and dedicated, in just a few short years you will become a very successful and profitable blogger.
